On Soul Mates

"A soul mate is not romantic---it is spiritual."

The popular use of the term SOUL MATE has created more heat than light. So it's about time to pause and clarify what soul mate really means before it gets completely drowned in the sea of confusion.
... The first to define and use the term was the American psychic and prophet Edgar Cayce, who died in 1945. Speaking in a deep trance state, Cayce explained his concept of soul mate in no uncertain terms.
Soul mates, according to him, are two souls who, after a series of lifetimes together, became so close to each other that their destinies are to become helpmates to each other in their soul evolution.
A careful reading of that definition will show the thoughtful reader that soul mates are anything but a brief affair. Cayce was the first to link soul mates to REINCARNATION and KARMA. There can be no meaningful concept of soul mates without REINCARNATION and KARMA, because it is through a series of lifetimes lived together that two souls become soul mates.
To Cayce, a soul mate is the perfect half of the other, who alone can complete him or her. Cayce likened a soul mate relationship to "a tenon & a mortise", or to "a torque to the groove." Only one can fit perfectly with the other. In this sense, there can only be one soul mate for each soul, not two, or three or more.
But one can have several KARMIC PARTNERS in a single lifetime, and that's where the confusion in ideas begin. A karmic partner is often mistaken for a soul mate.
Why do we often marry our soul mate? Because we still have to work out our karma with other individuals before we can be perfect for our soul mate. And this may take several lifetimes to accomplish.
We can compare a soul mate encounter to a lump of carbon before it has been cut, polished, and perfected in a brilliant diamond.

It will take a series of lifetimes lived together to smoothen the rough edges of relationship before we can become a perfect partner to another soul.
And onced that is accomplished no force on earth can ever separate soul mates from being together. They will be partners forever, lifetime after a lifetime, until they have achieved perfection and union with God.
... A soul mate, therefore, in its truest sense, is a "mate of the soul", one that helps the other to evolve to a higher state of soul evolution. Any other meaning one attaches to the word is not entirely correct. It is a misuse of the term. But because it is also such a romantic-sounding term, many lovers refer to each other as their soul mates.
Should one, therefore leave one's partner, if he or she discovers that the other is not his or her soul mate? This problem is something every soul should decide for himself or herself.
But separation is not necessarily the ideal course of action. One marries another because of karmic obligation or link one has with the other. And we must work out our karma with a particular person before we move on, otherwise we are bound to meet the same person again in another lifetime.
Remember, both great hatred and great love bind you to another. So if you hate somebody very much, you are bound to meet hat person again in the next life.
The same with great love- unless it is a universal, unconditional love, ordinary immortals like us have not yet learned to do.
